back in town
i’m back from a mini-break to my family’s cabin in west virginia. it was an amazing time away! the cabin is so remote there’s no cell phone reception and no tv, so we spent 3 whole days cut off from the outside. (we did take a day trip into pittsburg, so i was able to check my email once!) we drank coffee (lots!), sat on the porch swing, read, hiked, and inhaled fresh...
wine-cork-board
well diy sunday turned into diy monday. we got home today and after we ate dinner (breaded rosemary shrimp with garlicky cannellini beans—yum!) we started putting together a shelving unit for b’s office. finishing in record time for ikea furniture (and no fights), i decided to continue on with the productivity. i’m in the process of redoing our “junk counter” and...
diy sunday
a couple weeks ago i posted about making fabric covered file boxes instead of forking over $$ buying them from the container store. today i decided to finsih that project. i started off going to joann’s fabric and buying the supplies:
i picked two fabrics that have greens, blues, browns and a little purple. not exactly what i had in mind, but they look nice in b’s office! oh...

The Time Traveler's Wife
my book club has been reading The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. i finished it last friday and i must say that i did enjoy it. i recommend it for a great bed-time-read or if you’re looking to read something with twists and turns. as a bonus, they’ve turned it into a movie with Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana!
happy friday!
hope you enjoy your weekend! i’ll be canning green beans with b’s grandma!

blogroll
i’ve refreshed my google reader lately and added some new blog-love to it. here’s what i’m reading lately:
“Making it Lovely” - feminine and modern fun! (Nicole Balch)
{frolic} - fun and pretty things! (Chelsea in Portland)
style/SWOON - swoon-worthy lovelies! (Samantha Reitmeiyer)
DECORNO - for the naughty desinger in you!
i've decided i need a dressing room
eventually. a place just for clothes, jewelry and accessories. a little haven. ah to dream! and i’m thinking, this couch would be perfect!

boxes
over here at 3B I am in serious need of organization—specifically in the file area. currently, we store our files (bills, important docs, undergrad papers, and misc) in our plastic college file boxes, which are bursting. yikes! after re-doing blake’s office (pics coming!) i decided to move our stuff into his storage space. we still can’t fit a file cabinet there (nor do i...

give up my papertowels? (maybe!)
i recently read about twist cloths on AT, but was skeptical. they claimed these little sponge-papertowel hybrids were excellent little cleaners, and could replace your paper. so last week i picked them up at whole foods 3 for $3. and let me tell you: AMAZING! last night i did a counter deep cleaning…we’re talking bleach and all…and did not use ONE paper towel! it can...
headboard inspiration
we just finished our “headboard” (for now anyways.) and i love how it turned out. but if we hadn’t gone this direction, AT posted a great idea today. (see below)
a headboard from a wall hanging!
diy travel candle
i saw this on design*sponge today and i love it! i’ve seen similar candles in boutique stores that sell for $30…this is looking like a fun option in these economic times!
new old digs
the big reveal! some of these pics are kind of blurry, and i apologize. if i can take clearer ones in the day, i’ll repost them.
also, this is just of the entry and livingroom. the bedroom and the office are coming!
i don’t think the pictures capture how much bigger it feels in the space now. i truly love it and am happy with how the changes turned out!

Crab Soufflés
i’m going to have to try out this recipe! this makes me want to have a saturday brunch…hmm…anyone else?

Yum!
check out this excellent tool for the kitchen! this pan makes brownies in the shape of a chocolate bar. i love that you can divide it up perfectly into twelve pieces! what a fun way to make sure you only eat one brownie!

what would you do with these lamps?
i picked up these teak wood and alabaster lamps about a month ago and have been pondering just what to do with them. last night i stopped in urban nest and picked up these to black drum shades. they are just what i had in mind! but i’m in still in a conundrum…
what i can’t decide is what to do with the wood. i was thinking of painting them a lacquered white, but i’m...
the study
this weekend we are tackling several things. first things first: painting the living room. i think we can knock this out on saturday. to make life easier we are going to go with Benjamin Moore’s “Aura” line of paints. You don’t have to prime beforehand, and each coat dries within one hour!
second, we are going to paint the back “study.” i’m quite...
white
i think i’ve decided. the living is going white. i’m convinced it will be devastatingly gorgeous.
now…which white!
my lamps in revolutionary road!
the pefect synthesis?
don’t hate me, but i think i love these lamps! am i crazy?
mini sneak preview
this weekend we had our new rowe sofa delivered. the delivery guys were champs, bringing it up three floors! our apartment looks so incredibly different now. the book shelves are gone (now adopted by some good friends), as well as most of the furniture in the room. it has a different feel to the room now, and i’m just itching to paint the walls!
to do checklist:
prime and paint

sofa!
we just got the news that the new sofa is comin’ home on saturday morning! next up: painting the walls. it’s all coming together! i’ll post pics of the new layout this weekend!

45% vintage modern
i found this quiz at how about orange to help you figure out your design style. you rate different pics with a love it/like it/just ok/don’t like it/hate it. based on that it gives you your summary. i turned out:
45% Vintage Modern 36% Hollywood Couture 19% Cottage Chic this is the description for them: (i’m posting them so i can...
APCs
so, today i was supposed to discuss APCs (antigen presenting cells)…but i’m beat. i’m not quite done here in the lab. going on 14 hours! wooo, i love lab meeting week! i really do enjoy work, so it’s not so bad.
speaking of bad, i was! i know i was supposed to focus focus focus, but i had a four hour incubation tonight. SO, i went about town and picked up some...
characterization of APC populations in the CNS...
because i have lab meeting this wednesday, i have decided that these first few days of the week i’m making all home interior posts (and browsing the web for related goods) off limits! i need to focus focus focus. so perhaps, i thought instead i might blog a bit about the research i do. i really never talk about what i do during the day except to blake (and of course the good people i work...
